No one should face felony charges without a good attorney by their side.
A felony is any crime for which you can be sentenced for more than a year. If you are charged with a felony, you need an attorney to protect your rights. Only your lawyer can help you understand what you are facing, help you make the best decisions for yourself, and help you get out of the bind you are in.s
If you are convicted of a felony, it will dramatically affect your life.
A felony conviction becomes a part of your criminal history, and will be permanently available to any potential employer, making it extremely difficult for you to find employment. A convicted felon can be disqualified from receiving state and federal food and housing assistance. In many states, convicted felons permanently lose their right to vote(in Georgia, the right to vote is restored upon completion of a sentence). Under both Georgia and federal law, a convicted felon may not possess a firearm—possession of a firearm by a convicted felon is itself a felony. A felony conviction can be grounds for denial of any sort of license issued by the government, even if the felony is unrelated to the license. A convicted felon may not sit on a Georgia or federal jury. A convicted felon may not serve as a Georgia peace officer in any capacity. Without a special exception, if you are convicted of a felony, you will be unable to serve in the armed forces of the United States. For certain felonies, Georgia and federal law require lifetime registration in a state registry, which places severe restrictions on where a convicted felon may live, work, and travel.
A felony conviction is a tremendous burden on your life and on your family, which is why you need a lawyer by your side who will fight for you and help you protect your rights. If you are charged with a felony, you need to talk to a lawyer.
